Sneak Peak:
As Christopher looked into the eyes of his Principal, they began to change. He watched fearfully as his normally dull brown shade began to swirl and shift its color to the brightest and deepest shade of blue Christopher had ever seen in his life. Brighter than any light source created by man. It literally penetrated every corner of the room, bringing even the shadowed spaces to life before Christopher’s eyes. Mr. Warnack slowly rose from his seat with his arms stretched out wide from side to side and spoke again, “You have many questions, young Christopher – of that I’m sure. And they will all be answered,” his eyes glistened as he spoke and stared directly into Christopher’s eyes, “in time.” A light began to grow behind Principal Warnack, creating a silhouette of himself where he stood. It was white-hot and, as it grew, it began to pulsate and felt a bit warm. Within the silhouette, Christopher noticed that Principal Warnack’s hair began changing as well. He had always been nearly bald, but what hair had been present was again, a boring dull brown. Within the light, however, Christopher watched as a full head of hair grew out down to the middle of Principal Warnack’s back, and it was jet-black!
Christopher’s heart was racing, and he was scared. It was then that he began to hear a slight rumble in the distance, like the sound made when a train was just around the corner. The room began to shake and Principle Warnack spoke once more, “I am Warnack! It is your time! The gate is now open, and you must walk through young Christopher.” Christopher stood up and began stepping back toward the door. “I….I don’t understand,” Christopher said – scared beyond words. The rumbling grew louder, closer, and the light pulse continued to pick up speed. Mr. Warnack’s eyes suddenly became fixed on Christopher causing him to freeze and become motionless. “Young Christopher – it is your time – Now…….Walk Through!” he said with the deepest and darkest voice Christopher had ever heard. At the center of the great light, directly behind Mr. Warnack, the void had now expanded to encompass nearly the entire wall. In the center of the light was a rotating mass; a deep and dark cherry colored hole that had a water-like property, like when light shines through a dark colored glass bottle of water. Christopher looked into the center and could see the glow of light behind it, but nothing beyond with clarity. Mr. Warnack stepped aside, and his long bony finger pointed to the purple void. Christopher was frozen in time and wanted nothing to do with the void, or the gate, or whatever the hell that thing was. He reached for the door behind him in an attempt to escape – and that’s when he felt it. He began to feel as if he were being pulled from behind. He was still wearing his backpack and thought for sure Mr. Warnack had grabbed him, but that was not the case. Christopher turned to see Mr. Warnack still standing behind the desk, and just to the side of the void. He also noticed that the purple center had now grown substantially, pulsating, picking up speed, and getting louder. The void had found Christopher and, whether he wanted to play or not, the game had now begun
